Edimax EW-7811Un 150 Mbps Wireless 11n Nano Size USB Adapter with EZmax Setup Wizard

Got this 802.11n wireless USB adapter for a slightly older laptop that came out just before 11n was standard. The fact it's so tiny means no worries about knocking it out or around when moving the laptop. I was afraid that would mean spotty or poor performance, but that's just not the case. It reports the signal is stronger than with the 11g connection. Installation was simple. Switched off the internal G wireless, plugged in this tiny adapter and loaded up the software. No issues at all and was up in less than 10 minutes. This was the last non-11n device I had, so now I've locked the router into 11n mode only. The throughput is noticeably faster for all devices - not just the laptop.

I picked up a five year old MacBook that works great but the WiFi reception with the built-in Airport was terrible. I had to be within 5ft. of my home router, and I never saw 100% signal. I popped this little thing in and followed the downloadable manual for Mac, because the supplied installation disk is mini-size and won't work in Macbooks. My signal instantly jumped to 98-100% everywhere in my small house, upstairs and down. I'm amazed! Super small, so it doesn't block the other USB port. It made my laptop useable all around the house, and that's all that I wanted.

I bought this for a friend who doesn't have WIFI. His neighbor told him to get one and that he could have access for internet through their signal. He is elated. He now can watch Hulu TV, send e-mails to his friends, and listen to internet radio. It is a boon for his entertainment, and socialization as he is disabled vet, with very limited financial resources.

Excellent product, worked instantly in WinXP, and Ubuntu linux 10.10, no driver install at all in Ubuntu or WinXP. In W7 there was already an Internet connection and it went out and found a driver, rebooted and it worked. Much faster speeds and better connection with my Acer laptop, which had an internal wireless b/g adapter, now removed. I am very pleased.

TP-Link TL-WN722N 150Mbps High Gain Wireless USB Adapter

I am very happy with this adapter. It's cheaper than most competitors, yet performs much better. I have a half dozen different wireless adapters in my house. I bought all different models to test them out. This TP-LINK is by far the best performer. It sees more wireless networks and maintains a better connection. It is much bigger than most USB adapters, especially with the big antenna sticking out the side. But that's the price you pay for better performance. I also had to install drivers on my Win7 64 computer. Most USB adapters are plug&play.

Based on another review here, I ordered this as a an alternative to the Onkyo dongle for streaming the internet with my Onkyo 809 receiver. Apparently, this unit uses the same chip set as the Onkyo dongle. Sure enough, after setting the 809 to the USB input and inserting the WN722N, the Onkyo loaded it up automatically. The WN722 automatically found several networks, including my router, and after typing in my password on the screen that comes up on the Onkyo, I was connected to the internet. Works great so far on Sirius/SM, Aupeo, Pandora. A big advantage this has over the Onkyo dongle is that, unlike that unit, this WN722N has an antenna and has much better reception and signal strength.
